As the world faces the COVID-19 outbreak, many are self-isolating or quarantining due to government rules and regulations. Just because you are at home doesn’t mean you can’t have a skincare routine during the quarantine. Nikola Valenti is here to share a few tips and tricks for at-home self-care.
Nikola Valenti's Skin Care Tips:
Commit to your Daily Routine
One of the best things you can do for your skin is to commit to a routine. Even if you aren’t wearing makeup during the day, you should still cleanse at night and follow up with hydrating, nourishing products. The same goes for the morning.
Your quarantine skincare routine doesn’t have to be incredibly complex, but at a minimum, try to follow these general steps.
At Night:
Remove makeup (if you’re wearing any)
Cleanse
Exfoliate at least 1x a week
Moisturize
In the Morning:
Cleanse
Moisturize
Apply SPF
Optional steps for both morning and night may include using toners, serums, masks, or spot treatments.
Get Enough Sleep
Admit it, you have disrupted your sleep schedule during this quarantine.
A good night’s sleep is as important as the skincare products you use. One of the main skin issues caused due to lack of sleep is dark circles which BTW, no amount of serums and lotions can help erase if you don’t get a good night's rest. Stick to your otherwise daily sleep pattern and avoid staying up till 3 am.
Get Some Vitamin C
Being confined at home doesn’t mean free radicals won't attack your skin. It doesn’t matter if you’re indoors, they are always present in the atmosphere and can cause issues like changes in skin color to weakened skin and even give you wrinkles. The secret to eliminating these free radicals is antioxidants.
Skincare products enriched with Vitamin C are loaded with antioxidants that help protect and fight any skin damage. You could also try products enriched with Rosehip oil to nourish and brighten dry, dull skin.
Don’t Go Overboard with Products
If you’re a skincare junkie, it can be tempting to test a lot of new products out while you’re at home. Now is a great time to take care of your skin, but make sure you’re not trying too many things at once.
Going overboard with treatments or mixing too many products can overwhelm the skin and have a reverse effect. The last thing you want is to throw off your skin’s balance and cause breakouts or an allergic reaction. Feel free to experiment with new things, but make sure you’re following product guidelines. Sometimes, less is more!
Nourish Your Body From the Inside Out - Eat Healthily
Last but certainly not least, the health of your skin is about so much more than the products you use. Our diet actually plays an important role in the condition of our skin, so try to make healthy choices whenever you can.
Instead of restricting yourself, focus on fueling your body with nourishing foods. Make sure you’re getting enough B vitamins, vitamin D, calcium, and iron.
Another huge factor in maintaining the health of your skin is staying hydrated, so remember to drink as much water as you can. This can be easy to forget while you’re home, but it’s incredibly important. Set a goal for yourself and stick to it—your skin will thank you!
