Best Women Owned Brands in 2021

Nikola Valenti: Celebrating Women's History Month

We are celebrating our 110th anniversary of International Women's Day this year. What better way to celebrate than knowing women-owned fashion brands.

Women of the past and present are paving the way for future female business leaders. Around 40 percent of United States companies are women-owned, and there are 114 percent more women entrepreneurs than 20 years ago.

AVRE was born out of necessity to transform the industry with the inspiration to pursue a sustainable footwear brand for the empowered woman. AVRE does exactly that by using recycled plastics bottles on our quest to craft trendy and comfy footwear.

LIVELY is inspired by what we believe makes women sexy today; smart, healthy, active and outgoing. We are delivering bras and undies that blur the aesthetic lines of lingerie, active, and swim, taking the best elements of high-style and comfort from each category. We are establishing an entirely new category and POV of lingerie, a movement that we call Leisurée.

Inspired by women with wild hearts and boss brains.

Delaroq is a line of handbags and accessories created by NYC-based designer Jennifer Lyu. After considerable experience from design roles at Louis Vuitton, Prada, and 3.1 Phillip Lim, she was inspired to launch her own brand with clarity of purpose and intention. Driven by an innate desire to reduce and simplify, she wanted to create a line of accessories that are grounded in sustainability using excess materials. ‘Enabled by strong relationships with tanneries and factories, we are able to support production with an upcycling concept, using materials readily available that are considered industrial excess.’ The products are hence serialized as collectible limited edition pieces, avoiding the step of tanning leathers, which is the most environmentally detrimental process within leather goods manufacturing.

Rosa Halpern is the owner, designer, and life force behind By The Namesake. Her background in fashion is extensive, learning to sew and pattern at age 10 and having her first internship at age 16.

The Namesake started organically when a friend asked Rosa to make a leather jacket after tirelessly searching for a jacket that fit her perfectly and had every feature she was looking for. And then more requests started coming in, and more... until Rosa realized she had a waitlist of people who wanted to customize a leather jacket. An untapped niche; and so By The Namesake was born.

Spanx

SPANX founder Sara Blakely was getting ready for a party when she realized she didn’t have the right undergarment to provide a smooth look under white pants. Armed with scissors and sheer genius, she cut the feet off her control top pantyhose and the SPANX revolution began! With a focus on solving wardrobe woes, the SPANX brand has grown to offer bras, underwear, leggings, active and more. SPANX has secured its place in women's hearts and in pop-culture with daily mentions everywhere from CNN to SNL.

In March of 2012, Founder Sara was named the world's youngest, self-made female billionaire by Forbes Magazine and one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People. Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, and opening retail shops across the United States, SPANX can now be found worldwide in more than 50 countries. In addition to keeping butts covered from Savannah to Singapore, SPANX also shapes the world by focusing on our mission: To help women feel great about themselves and their potential.
